My art: Overflow

I am pleased to have one of my artworks included in Doncaster Art Fair’s “Art as a Response to Mental Health” exhibition for 2024. I’ve only just started to feel comfortable putting my ‘serious’ art out into the world (as opposed to my design and illustration which feel a little less personal) so it’s a bit intimidating to be featured alongside so many extremely talented artists!

This painting was made during a very sad time for me. I wanted to try and capture the sense of loneliness I feel as a person with extreme, overwhelming emotions who is still trying to hold it together and be the person that others want/need me to be. The bright colours and anime influence of my usual style is mashed up with messy, murky colours and collaged paper from my medication information leaflets. I was hoping it would look jarring but not too over the top. The expression of someone who is ill but not ill enough.

Mixed Media painting of a feminine face with somewhat abstract, drippy hair in bright neon colours. The expression is blank with a lot of shadow around the eyes. In the background are collages paper elements.
